ABOUT US

WHO'S WHO?

Our group has an international representation in recognition of the flyway-scale nature of the research and conservation activities undertaken. The core group is composed of key stakeholders from NGOs on the island of Ireland (NT, WWT, RSPB, BWI), government departments on both sides of the border (NIEA and NPWS), academics from institutions in the UK (QUB and Exeter) and individuals involved in the project since its inception. More recently we have sought to extend the organisation to include representation from elsewhere in the flyway and Dr Gudmundsson (representing Iceland) has attended a meeting of the group and we hope this will continue.

Core funding to support the activities of the group comes via a contract with NPWS and the NIEA awarded to WWT.
The group's primary function is to act as a Steering Group towards the implementation of the Northern Ireland Species Action Plan. It also acts as the de facto Working Group for the implementation of the AEWA Single Species Action Plan. This is expected to become official following consultation between AEWA and SSAP Range States in due course.
